When Smart People Vote Stupid: The Real Crisis Behind Our Elections

We get it. People without financial means often lack genuine choices. A person facing an empty dinner table might accept hundreds of pesos to vote for survival. The situation is both heartbreaking and understandable because it is wrong.

The inability to explain why educated wealthy voters choose corrupt thieves who steal from the nation remains inexplicable.

Doctors. Lawyers. Engineers. Professors. Business executives and sadly even some members if the so called “Cream of the Crop.”. Despite their ability to solve complex problems and write scholarly works they choose politicians who have a history of corruption, unqualified and misconduct.

What’s the excuse this time?
“It’s just politics.”
“He’s good for my business.”
“At least he’s charming.”
“All politicians are corrupt anyway.”

The defense of “Everybody’s dirty” functions as an intellectual escape which resembles throwing hands up while declaring “Soap is pointless when everything already stinks.”
It’s pathetic.

Intelligence which goes beyond formal qualifications should lead to improved judgment and increased moral awareness and courage for breaking corruption patterns. The “best and brightest” class among our population actively supports their country’s gradual death through vote participation.

When people who are poor remain stuck in a system from which they cannot escape they become victims.
The defense of such systems by educated individuals makes them traitors against the values they pretend to uphold.

The worth of education becomes questionable when it generates individuals who remain selfish or cowardly or insensitive to basic moral decisions. Intelligence should be redefined since brain power fails to produce beneficial use for public welfare.

The truth is simple:
Knowing better does not justify choosing the worst option because it makes you part of the problem.
The number of your diplomas and job positions along with your self-proclaimed critical thinking skills cannot conceal your feelings of shame.
